Hazel Caldwell Skeen

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, died on September 5, 1999 at the age of ninety-four.  She was born on March 30, 1905 in St. John, Utah a daughter of George and Annie Morgan Caldwell.  Educated in the St. John Elementary School, and graduated from the L.D.S. School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.  She also completed post-graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley.  She was employed as a Supervisor of Nursing at L.D.S. Hospital.  She was married to Edwin J. Skeen on June 11, 1930 in the Salt Lake Temple.  While raising two sons, she enjoyed many activities.  She and Edwin enjoyed fishing.  She was known for her cooking skills, especially her breads and cookies.  She loved spending time at the family cabins in Logan and Millcreek Canyons and house in San Diego.  She maintained a “neighborhood toy drawer” used by many children.  She was active in the Salt Lake Literary Club and was an active member in the Bonneville Ward for over fifty years.  Hazel was the ninth child in a family of 11 and is the last survivor.  She is survived by her husband, Edwin J., two sons Edwin C. “Ted” (Miriam) and Richard “Dick” (Judith) both of Salt Lake City area, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  Preceded in death by one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 9, 1999, 12:30 p.m. at the Bonneville Stake Center, 1535 E. Bonneville Dr.  Friends may call Wednesday, September 8th 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. and one hour prior to the services at the Stake Center.
